Things of God Spoken Word Poetry
Shine
Things of God by Emily Ulman
Things of God, What Scripture Reveals Our Spirit Experiences During Our Dying shares the results of much time spent in God’s Word. I’m now on a quest that, though I would never have chosen it, I can’t not continue. My quest is to get this book into the hands so many struggling with their end of life coming sooner than expected, and those struggling with loss. I find it a comfort and a powerful tool; one I think Christ has big plans to use to impact His Kingdom for His glory.
Imagine this world
If our moon, askew
Refused its designated
Job to do
What consequence?
What relevance?
O how soon to swoon
Would we all be, helplessly
Imagine it,
If our moon, askew
Found no affinity
For the responsibility
Of reflecting
The light of the sun
Onto everything
And everyone
Sometimes with
Little visibility only
Sometimes full on
With moonbeams
Radiantly
What if it found, simply
This to not be enough?
Or, seemingly, even too much?
Imagine it,
If our moon, askew,
Unsatisfied
Preferred instead
To give in to the notion
Self-gratified
Of a you-do-you mentality
Independently
Imagine it,
If our moon, askew
In an inward focused view
Went forth dividedly
To shine falsely?
Where would its light be?
Imaginatively,
Can you see?
Imagine the total upset
To our beloved planet
Its rotation
Our oceans
Our climates, delicate;
With succession
Of immoderation
In obliteration
Of our seasons
And all life’s rhythms
And reasons
Shameful is this drive, askew
This intensive strive, not new
To propel self’s shine above and
Outside the Designer’s design,
Evidenced in tragic decline.
With certainty
The consequences, dire
In relevance and severity
Of allowing self the authority
To follow pride, insatiable
In its dethroning want, sinful
For the Divine
To be pushed aside
The results for God’s people,
Detrimental, echo the evilest evil. Now imagine this, our world,
If God’s people, in commitment
To the fulfillment of His plan for them, unparalleled
Passionately compelled, truly
To reflect His Light from them fully
The Light of our Son
The eternal and holy One
Sometimes our shine
With little visibility only
And sometimes full on
Beaming radiantly.
Imagine this,
God’s people in willingness
Living out our Christianity in purity, His, choosing intentionally
To strive in Christ-centeredness
In His yoke of self-forgetfulness,
Gentle; to persist
Within His designated purpose
In His grace and faithfulness,
Just imagine this.
Imagine the overwhelmingness,
If we all, in thankful, fearless
Moving-forwardness in His Reflectiveness, in this our place
In time, of Him shine, and through Him shine, and to Him, just shine. What consequence!
What relevance, Divine!
(For the faith
once for all
contend,
for to God’s holy people
it was entrusted.
Our God,
He is able
to prevent us from stumble.
– in reflection of Jude 3, 24)
