Things of God Spoken Word Poetry

Things of God by Emily Ulman

Things of God, What Scripture Reveals Our Spirit Experiences During Our Dying shares the results of much time spent in God’s Word. I’m now on a quest that, though I would never have chosen it, I can’t not continue. My quest is to get this book into the hands so many struggling with their end of life coming sooner than expected, and those struggling with loss. I find it a comfort and a powerful tool; one I think Christ has big plans to use to impact His Kingdom for His glory.

A Conversation

While on my way to visit Mom that day

Miss Marne was in her chair by the fireplace there

And smiling I greeted her, Miss Marne, Good morning

Then responding, she said this to me:

My husband, him have you seen; he likes to go walking?

Miss Marne, oh I’m sorry no

But isn’t it almost time for lunch to go?

Persisting, Miss Marne then was saying:

If him you do see, say this to him for me,

I’m here, on him waiting.

Nodding okay I turned quickly away down the hallway

Not her view allowing of my heart breaking, tears overcoming

For Miss Marne, without ability to recall reality, is unknowing

That her beloved mate, more than just late, years have amassed

Since seeing him last, as long from this life he is passed.

Without ability to remember reality any longer, so too is another

My own ailing mother, and I began in emotional prayer to wonder:

Dear Lord of me, why can this be, it’s so hard to see;

Fears overcome me, O Lord, to whom else will this ensue,

Could this be true, might it happen to me too?

Having lived lives lengthy, why do we, so many

When elderly, suffer our endings longingly, lonely

Without dignity, sanity, not even our memories?

What sense is in this, the sadness, the painfulness

Bringing to a close the aliveness of this life You’ve given us?

Then to a conversation were my thoughts drawn, with similarity striking

Not about brain deterioration, for this of Jesus Christ to Peter talking:

But when you are aged, where you do not wish to go you will be taken,

And stretching out your hands, by someone else you will be

girded; Follow Me, listen: only in Me place your faith in.
